Escape Room Questions
Our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) are here to answer any escape room questions you may have before booking a game with us. Of course, it is important to us that you know what to expect from our escape games and puzzle rooms. Likewise, if you have any other escape room questions, please contact us and we will answer as soon as possible.
– WHAT IS OTHER WORLD ESCAPES?
Other World Escapes is an immersive, team-gaming experience for all (anyone under 16 years old requires a paying adult in the room with them). Our game focuses on playing with the senses to fully immerse players in their experience. Together, teams must find clues, solve puzzles and complete the games’ objective. The objective of each game is different and follows a detailed narrative to encourage players to feel like they are are assuming a character within the story.
– DO YOU HAVE PARKING?
There is parking at Market Way Car Park, Portsmouth (Pay and display 24 hours).
– HOW DO I FIND YOU?
PORTSMOUTH: We are situated on the Market Way roundabout at the top end of Commercial Road. Look for the large signage on the roundabout.
– HOW LONG BEFORE THE EXPERIENCE SHOULD I ARRIVE?
You should arrive 5 minutes prior to the time stated on your booking. This is to ensure we have enough time to prepare you for your experience as we have a short intro to each game as well as a Health & Safety brief.
If you arrive up to 15 minutes late you will have the option to play the remainder of your allotted time in the game. If you are more than 15 minutes late for your booking you will unfortunately no longer be able to enter your game and will not be entitled to a refund. Please contact us if you are running late and we will do everything we can to accommodate you and your team.
– HOW LONG IS THE EXPERIENCE?
We suggest to allow for up to 90 minutes for your experience. This includes a 10-15 minute brief and introduction, 60/75 minutes to complete the objective in the room, and 10-15 minutes debrief and photo shoot.
– IS IT SCARY?
At Other World Escapes, we pride ourselves on providing an intense and immersive experience. We are focused on delivering an experience fuelled with adrenaline and ending in a team accomplishment – not to frighten players.
– ARE WE REALLY LOCKED IN?
No, you will not be locked in. You will be able to exit the room at any point during the game and for any reason.
– IS IT DANGEROUS OR UNSAFE?
No. We take utmost care in creating exciting but safe environments for all. Additionally, our supervisory and management staff are first-aid trained and on-hand during the game should any player require their assistance.
– WHO CAN PLAY?
Our games are suitable for all adventurers seeking an experience unlike any other. The games are suitable for corporate team building, a unique social activity and a fun pastime for visitors exploring everything Portsmouth has on offer.
Under 16’s requires adult supervision, 1 adult (18+) per under 16 group, in order to play our games. 5 and under go free.
– ARE THE GAMES DIFFICULT?
Each game is a challenge of intellect, stamina and guts! As each game has specific puzzles linked to the game theme and story they will vary greatly so it is difficult to determine specific difficulty levels.
– DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR NEW PLAYERS?
Always be aware of your surroundings and look everywhere. Puzzles and the rooms may not be as they first seem. It is also very important to make sure you communicate with your team mates. Those who do, progress much quicker.
– WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Come as you are, comfortable shoes and clothing that doesn’t restrict you are advised, due to the physical aspects of playing each game.
– WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT?
Each game is hand crafted by us and includes varying dynamics so – expect the unexpected! In general, you should expect to assume the identity of a character of your choosing for 60 minutes, following a short introduction and briefing of the game content. You will be tasked with completing an objective whilst in the room and will need to work with the other players to complete it effectively. After the game, you will have a short debrief and an optional photo session. The total experience (including brief and debrief) will last between 75 and 90 minutes. – WARNING: Our games have various elements of audio and visual effects, fragrances and kinaesthetic experiences. Please contact us directly before booking to discuss these elements further if you or any of your team would like further details.
– WHAT SIZE IS EACH ROOM?
The rooms vary from 15 metres squared to 90 metres squared.
– CAN I BRING CHILDREN?
Sure! Children under 5 go free and under 16’s require adult supervision. Let us know during your brief if you need to be made aware of any surprising moments for the sake of potentially scaring small children.
– DO YOU PROVIDE REFUNDS OR AMEND BOOKINGS?
As your experience is a live event we cannot issue refunds or accept cancellations once your booking is confirmed. Alternatively, we can reschedule your booking (once). Please contact us prior to the start of your booking to arrange this. Refund and amendment requests from players who have experienced extenuating circumstances will be duly reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
– CAN I BRING MY PHONE OR CAMERA IN THE GAME?
You may take your mobile phone in the game with you but would advise leaving it on vibrate so as not to distract you from your game. No photos of any kind are permitted inside any of our rooms so the games remain secret for future players. We welcome you to use your phone or camera in the reception area.
– CAN WE BRING IN DRINK OR FOOD?
No food is to be consumed within the game room. Bottled drinks are allowed, providing they have a secure cap to avoid spillages.
– CAN I COME INEBRIATED?
No. In light of this, if you are visibly under the influence, we reserve the right to ask you to leave the premises without a refund. We would like to keep you, your team and our staff as safe as possible and cannot claim to be doing so if any of the above-named parties are intoxicated.
Also, if you are offensive or threatening towards any of our staff you will also be asked to leave the premises without a refund.
– CAN I PAY IN CASH?
No. We only accept bookings by card.

– CAN I BUY GIFT VOUCHERS?
Gift vouchers can be purchased from our booking engine here for your own team or emailed to someone else as a gift. You can redeem your gift vouchers at any time following the purchase. Spaces for games upon redemption are subject to availability.
